January Update

Happy New Year!  An update and a preliminary itinerary for the year!! View this email in your browser Happy New Year 2012 went like a flash!  Here is what's up for 2013. I hope the new year finds you well, full of energy and hope for a year full of potential! I've got a lot in store for me in the coming months.  Most pressing on the agenda is raising money to go work with Bonnie Hanszen of the Ahava Foundation in Bali and Thailand.  I'm about halfway there, so read on, and please think about giving toward this trip!  This quarter is my outreach phase off of my internship.  Teaching people how to build aquaponics is something I want to become proficient at.  The trip to Southeast Asia is part of it, but I also get to travel to California and help some people I will be working with with YWAM Ships to build and train on a small system there.  It's cool how opportunities are already arising.  I will also be running training seminars for people on how to start seeds for garden plants.  I'll be doing several other things applying what I learned last quarter as well around base and out of the country.   Once I get back from that (around March 18th) I will be helping to ready everything for the EARS school, and begin that school on April 1st.  Then I head to Kenya to do my EARS outreach, but you'll hear more about that in the coming months.   A brief itinerary: Jan 3-21 projects around YWAM base, seed starting seminar with base staff.  Jan 22-Feb 5 travel to Catalina Island near Los Angeles and manage an aquaponics build and training their staff on it.  Feb 6-18th starting seeds for the garden at the YWAM base, possibly running more training for any staff interested.  Feb 18th-March 18th (tentative) Head to Bali, then Thailand to work with Dr. Hanszen.  March 18th- April 1st help get everything together for the EARS school. April 1st Start EARS! Now for some pictures!   I was very blessed to be able to go home for Christmas this year.  Because I have been leading outreaches every fall for the past 5 years, I have only gotten to go home for Christmas once during that time.  It was really great to have the time this year to stay with them for a while.  I am so blessed to have such a great place to come home to after I've been away. I mentioned above working with Bonnie Hanszen, here is a brief bio on her.  I've gotten to talk to her on the phone a couple of times and she is eager to help me get better at aquaponics so I can have it as another "tool" on my belt. Here is some info Dr. Hanszen sent me about herself: Bonnie Hanszen Founding Head of The Ahava Foundation Headquarters in Texas   BA, MBA, Ph.D. having studied @ St. John's College & Central Texas College, in the USA, InterAmerican University in Mexico, Hartford University in England   Dr. Hanszen has had lifelong experience in stock and agricultural management with 25 years experience in refining and designing aquaponics systems for applications in third world locales. Additionally, The Ahava Foundation is meeting the unique needs of each community by helping to get water, sanitation, low tech power, and education and health care as needed. They now have projects in over twenty five countries and in many different climates and conditions using several different livestock resources such as pigs, chickens, and range livestock in addition to the fish of typical systems. Dr. Hanszen has had a dedicated to the education and personal development of others in every field of involvement.
